Glenn Beck Surprisingly Defends ‘The View’ in War With Trump
Beck said clips of the ABC talk show look like news and argued it should keep its equal-time rule exemption, according to his podcast.
On Monday, conservative political commentator Glenn Beck discussed the Federal Communications Commission investigation into whether The View qualifies as a news program, a classification that determines if ABC must adhere to equal time political rules.
The inquiry stems from a dispute involving Donald Trump and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who challenged the network's claim that the program functions as news rather than entertainment.
Drawing on 49 years of experience in FCC-regulated radio, Beck argued that ABC may be right to keep its exemption, noting the program appears to be a news show based on clips he has seen.
Beck suggested the FCC should determine if the show is primarily entertainment, stating "If it is 60% or more entertainment, ABC should lose this battle," while questioning why Jimmy Kimmel also receives news status.
Whether the agency classifies the program as news remains pivotal for the network, as the designation determines legal obligations regarding political coverage and equal time requirements for candidates.
