Edinburgh Zoo Announces Return of Popular Giant Lanterns Trail
The winter attraction features glowing galaxies, sparkling constellations and giant cosmic creatures, with ticket sales supporting conservation projects in Scotland and worldwide.
- Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Lanterns trail returns this year, inviting attendees to explore after dark with more than 1,000 handcrafted lanterns creating glowing galaxies and giant cosmic creatures.
- Building on the more than 96,000 visitors who attended in 2025, the trail supports RZSS's vital wildlife conservation work in Scotland and around the world, making every ticket purchase meaningful.
- Among the attractions are walk-through planets measuring 12 metres across and a giant owl with a seven-metre wingspan, complemented by 15,000 LED lights. Some elaborate lanterns take up to 220 hours to create.
- "We were blown away by the response to Giant Lanterns returning," said Lindsay Ross, events and experiences manager at RZSS. She hopes the trail inspires visitors to learn about wildlife and conservation work.
- Visitors can purchase tickets through the Edinburgh Zoo website for the trail running November 13 until February 21, 2027. The experience combines entertainment with RZSS's conservation work, encouraging visitors to learn about wildlife and species protection.
