The court said the men were recruited by Iran’s intelligence service and spied on Jewish targets before the planned attacks.
- On Thursday, a Hamburg court sentenced two men to prison for plotting attacks and spying on behalf of Iranian secret services. Both were convicted of espionage and attempted murder.
- Danish national Ali Hassan S. received eight-and-a-half years for plotting deadly attacks, while his Afghan accomplice, Tawab M., was sentenced to four-and-a-half years as the secondary defendant.
- Prosecutors reported the men took orders from the Quds Force, the foreign operations branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in early 2025 to target German-Israeli society figures including Volker Beck and Josef Schuster.
- Judge Petra Wende-Spors identified the crimes as 'terrorist activities orchestrated by Iran,' while Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli society, called the verdict 'a wake-up call for German security policy.'
- The Iranian embassy in Berlin previously rejected the charges as 'unfounded allegations made at the behest of Iran's enemies,' and Germany summoned Iran's ambassador last year following the initial arrest.
