Ice Cream Shop Faces Homophobic Attacks After LGBTQ+ Couple’s Visit
The shop said it removed abusive Facebook comments and vowed to keep supporting Pride and the LGBTQ+ community.
Taste of Sidmouth in Devon welcomed influencers Nick and Ant for gelato, but the shop's celebratory social media post attracted offensive comments the business identified as homophobic.
Known for its Pride Month rainbow flags, the shop had long supported the LGBTQ+ community, making the offensive remarks particularly jarring to the business's established values.
Owner Cathy Inglis questioned the hostility, stating, "Apparently, in 2026, we still have people who think it's acceptable to make nasty, homophobic remarks simply because two men are in a relationship."
Manager Sophie said the response over 12 hours left her "feeling incredibly emotional," with hundreds supporting the business and thanking it for speaking out against discrimination.
Taste of Sidmouth pledged to continue celebrating Pride Month and supporting the LGBTQ+ community, assuring Nick and Ant they remain "SO welcome" in the shop.
