GE Vernova Beats, Raises Guidance and Buys Trench Group. Here's What the Grid Deal Adds.
On Wednesday, GE Vernova announced a $9 billion acquisition of Trench Group from investment firm Triton Partners, with the transaction expected to close in late 2027 using equal portions of cash and debt.
Utilities are increasing spending to replace aging infrastructure and meet demand from data centers and industrial electrification, boosting demand for high-voltage transmission networks and specialized equipment that suppliers like Vernova provide.
Power orders nearly tripled in the quarter while backlog grew to a record $197 billion; third-quarter revenue rose 27% to $12.64 billion and adjusted EBITDA stood at $1.94 billion.
The acquisition expands Vernova's reach across Europe and Asia while providing access to Trench's backlog worth about $5 billion; production of 765-kilovolt equipment begins in Charlotte, North Carolina in late 2027.
Vernova raised its 2026 revenue forecast to $46.5 billion to $47.5 billion for the third consecutive time and expects global tariffs to add less than $100 million to annual costs.
GE Vernova released third-quarter results that exceeded market expectations and raised its projections for the year, in a test to see if the new quarter of force will be enough to dispel the recent fears around the pace of expansion of the energy sector.
