Mourners Gather for Funeral of Notorious Glasgow Gangster Paul Ferris
Ferris was remembered for a 1992 murder trial that drew more than 300 witnesses and ended in acquittal, before a later gun-running jail term.
On Monday, October 19, 2026, the funeral of former gangland enforcer Paul Ferris took place at Daldowie Crematorium in Uddingston, with mourners gathering to pay respects to the 62-year-old author.
Ferris first gained public attention in 1992 when acquitted of murdering Arthur Thompson Jnr, son of crime boss Arthur Thompson Snr, after a 54-day trial—the longest and most expensive criminal case in Scottish legal history.
Hundreds of mourners, including Johnny Adair and actor Paul Brannigan, attended the humanist service where floral tributes spelling "legend" and "dad" accompanied music by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Ahead of the service, Ferris's family requested that mourners consider donating to The Invisibles, an independent group supporting vulnerable people in Glasgow, as a "gesture of kindness" that could "make a real difference to the lives of others."
Ferris later documented his life in books including The Ferris Conspiracy and inspired the 2013 film The Wee Man, though the celebrant reflected on whether he had truly turned his back on crime after 25 years.
