Funeral today for B.C. soldier killed in CFB Wainwright fire
The ceremony will honor 23-year-old Pte. Aidan Goulding, one of four soldiers killed in the fire that wounded 39 others.
Today, Sunday, Nov. 8, family and friends gathered at Vancouver's Seaforth Armoury to honor Pte. Aidan Goulding, who died during a military training exercise in Alberta.
Goulding died on Oct. 17, 2026, when a grass fire overtook a live-fire grenade range at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright during a training exercise.
The incident also claimed the lives of Pte. Shaun Farrell, Hayden Lykkemark, and Sgt., while the fire left 39 others wounded with serious burns.
Friends and family remember the 23-year-old as an excellent athlete with a contagious laugh who was preparing for a peacekeeping mission in Latvia.
Based in Edmonton, the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry counted Goulding among its ranks, honoring the fallen soldier as the unit reflects on the tragedy.
