Funds Being Raised for Okanagan Flagger Hit by Car in Work Zone
The campaign has raised $4,360 toward a $9,000 goal to help cover living costs, medical bills and rehabilitation for Michelle Tapp.
Spallumcheen flagger Michelle Tapp suffered severe injuries after being struck by an SUV in a work zone last month, prompting The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP to investigate the incident.
Despite Tapp's bright, reflective clothing and stop sign, an SUV swerved directly toward her instead of navigating the work zone slowly, according to the family's account.
Tapp sustained orbital fractures, a broken skull, and multiple rib fractures; her sister Shannon Schmidt launched a GoFundMe that has raised $4,360 toward a $9,000 goal.
Michelle requires neck bracing and stationary support for 12 weeks minimum, followed by months of essential physiotherapy and psychological support to process the trauma.
Beyond covering immediate expenses, the family hopes to spread awareness about construction zone safety while The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP continues its investigation.
