FSSAI Suspends Kolkata Bakery Major Switz Foods' Licence over Unhygienic Manufacturing, Pest Infestation
The regulator ordered Switz Foods to stop operations until it fixes sanitation, pest control and segregation lapses found during inspection.
- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India suspended the license of Switz Foods on Saturday following "serious non-compliances" observed during an inspection of its manufacturing unit.
- According to the FSSAI, "Food was being manufactured, packed and stored in unhygienic conditions, posing a high risk of contamination and compromising food safety." The regulator cited overall unsatisfactory cleaning and sanitation.
- Inspectors observed "unhygienic conditions" in the crate washing area, reception area, washing area, and carrot cutting machine, alongside significant pest infestation including flies and mosquitoes, broken floor tiles, and improper Segregation between raw and finished products.
- The FSSAI has ordered Switz Foods to immediately cease all food business activities until it rectifies all deficiencies and complies with rules under the FSS Act, 2006.
- License restoration requires that Switz Foods rectify all deficiencies to the satisfaction of the competent authority and comply with Standards Authority requirements under the FSS Act.
