From Scotland to Canada

Mom was born in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.  Nana, Grandpa and eight children lived on South Beach Street.  Both home and Grandpa’s hotel faced ocean quays.  Mom cherished their two-storey, more affluent home, heated by a peat stove, and boasting a massive staircase, oversized stained-glass window on the first landing, regular domestic help and “Johnny”, who was tasked to clean windows with whiskey.
