Ferrari Tells Hamilton and Leclerc to 'Respect Each Other' After Mexico Incident
Ferrari says the near collision cost it a 1-2 finish, and Vasseur says the drivers have cleared the air before the next race.
- On Friday at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur ordered drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to respect each other following their opening-lap collision in Mexico that cost the team a 1-2 finish.
- The opening lap incident at Turn 4 saw Hamilton and Leclerc collide, allowing Red Bull's Max Verstappen to win the race while Hamilton finished second and Leclerc placed fourth after receiving a five-second penalty.
- Hamilton told journalists Thursday he remains "still frustrated" with the situation, having previously warned the team they needed "serious talks" regarding rules of engagement after the incident "lost us the win."
- Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff noted the situation resembles Hamilton's past battles with teammate Nico Rosberg, remarking, "Fred here doesn't need any advice from me but it's like a deja vu because you."
- Vasseur insisted the team "failed collectively" in Mexico, emphasizing that despite competitive friction, the drivers must act as professionals to support the Ferrari brand and its employees.
