Court Hearing Postponed for Corie Walsh, Frankfort Mother Accused in Son's Death
Defense attorney Andrea Lyon is seeking jail treatment records to assess whether Corie A. Walsh is receiving psychiatric care and medication on schedule.
- On Monday, Corie Walsh, 40, appeared in a Will County courtroom for a discovery status hearing regarding her 2-year-old son Barrett's September death. Defense attorneys argued she deserves a "thorough investigation" as the case proceeds.
- Prosecutors allege Walsh hanged Barrett in their Frankfort home on September 1 during a suicide attempt, while defense attorneys maintain she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis. Walsh faces 60 to 100 years in prison if convicted.
- Attorney Andrea Lyon requested treatment records from the Will County Jail to assess Walsh's psychiatric care and medication schedule. Lyon stated, "These medications have to be given on a schedule," adding the team is "learning everything they can about her psychosis."
- Despite prosecutors alleging Walsh planned to kill her husband Michael Walsh with a "poisoned drink," attorney Robert Kerr confirmed Michael is "fully supporting her." Walsh remains held without bail at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
- The next pretrial hearing is scheduled for November 23. Defense attorneys plan to argue Walsh was not guilty by reason of insanity, while family members continue to fill the courtroom demonstrating solidarity with the mother.
