Fox Stuck in Amazon Van Engine Delivered to Safety
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals rescued a fox trapped in a van engine, highlighting wildlife risks near vehicles, the organization said.
- On Wednesday , Inspector Herchy Boal quickly attended the Amazon depot in Derby and rescued a young fox trapped inside the engine of an Amazon delivery van.
- A flashing warning light led the Amazon delivery driver to open the van bonnet and find eyes staring back, revealing a fox that had chewed through engine wires.
- RSPCA staff used a "grasper" to remove the fox, which then received antibiotics and treatment for fleas, mange, and minor injuries from a local vet before transfer to Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital.
- The fox was transferred to Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital the next day for treatment of mange, and the RSPCA hopes to release her back into the wild next month.
- The RSPCA urged quick action if animals are in distress, with a spokesperson advising `If you find a sick or injured fox, keep a safe distance and do not attempt to handle the animal yourself,` while Herchy warned the trap could have had a far worse outcome.
