A survey of 1,701 UK drivers found 82% worry about bright headlights causing difficulty in seeing hazards and judging speed during darker evenings.

- On Sunday the clocks went back, producing earlier darkness and more post-work journeys in darkness, while bi-xenon and LED headlights, badly aligned headlights, and SUVs with higher headlamp positions increase glare.
- Survey data found drivers reporting specific visibility problems: 63% said hazards are harder to see and 41% said judging speed is harder, while 75% of nervous drivers blamed bright headlights.
- The government commissioned consultancy TRL to study headlight glare, with a report due shortly and a Westminster Hall debate on Wednesday, while DVSA has increased checks and can fine offenders up to 1,000.
