Epic Games cuts costs by removing three low-engagement Fortnite modes, affecting over 1,000 employees and shifting focus to user-created content tools.
- On Tuesday, March 24, the official Fortnite Status account on Twitter announced that Epic Games will delist three modes—Rocket Racing, Ballistic, and Festival Battle Stage—later this year.
- Epic Games is cutting costs as player engagement drops, a decision cited as a primary reason for the layoffs of 1,000+ employees on Tuesday. Many new modes are barely played compared to core Fortnite variants.
- Ballistic and Festival Battle Stage will shut down on April 16, while Rocket Racing is scheduled to go offline in October 2026. Epic says creators can move some Rocket Racing content to standalone islands to avoid deletion.
- "We failed to build something awesome enough to attract and retain a large player base," said Epic in its announcement. Racing quests are also being removed from the game next week.
- Music remains a priority for Epic, which plans to improve Festival Main Stage and Jam Stage while adding new FPS creation tools to UEFN. This positions the company to support creator-made modes going forward.
