Matt King Named to Coach New South Wales Blues
King has reportedly signed a two-year deal and will take over after Laurie Daley ended his 20-month reign, with NSW seeking consecutive series wins.
On Tuesday, the NSWRL appointed Matt King as head coach of the NSW Blues, signing him to a two-year deal for the 2027 State of Origin series.
Laurie Daley stepped down on Monday, ending his 20-month reign after leading the Blues to a 2026 series victory over Queensland.
The 45-year-old King played for Melbourne Storm, South Brisbane Rabbitohs, and Warrington, and brings coaching experience from working under Trent Robinson, Michael Maguire, and Craig Bellamy.
King described the NSW Blues as the "love of his life," pledging his "full and undivided attention" to the program and emphasizing his deep connection to the state.
Storm football manager Frank Ponissi will remain as the Blues' head of performance under King as the team targets back-to-back series wins in the coming years.
