ATC Islamabad Grants Three-Day Police Remand of Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad in AJK Protest Case
Prosecutors said they needed more time to recover a vehicle and an allegedly illegal weapon tied to the rally case.
- On Monday, an Islamabad anti-terrorism court remanded former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad and a co-accused, Daniyal, into police custody for three days following their arrest regarding a rally held in support of protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir .
- The arrest stems from a July 31 gathering in Islamabad's F-10, where Mushtaq led about 400-500 people to "express condolences, solidarity with Kashmir and for peace and reconciliation," though authorities allege the group blocked roads without a no-objection certificate.
- Authorities accused the protesters of making "incendiary" speeches, vandalising a media DSNG vehicle, and "attacking" police officials, with the FIR claiming Mushtaq and others blocked Main Jinnah Avenue Road near Shalimar Plaza.
- Prosecutors had requested a 30-day physical remand to recover a vehicle and an allegedly illegal weapon, but Duty Judge Rukhsanda Shaheen ultimately granted a three-day remand for further investigation.
- Mushtaq's Pakistan Rights Movement alleged he was previously detained by Punjab Police on July 28 at Kahuta Bazaar after being denied entry into AJK, an occurrence amid wider regional unrest and protests.
