Former NBA players Malik Beasley, Ed Davis are latest to be charged in gambling scandal
Prosecutors say the scheme involved hundreds of thousands of dollars and used bribes to steer player performance for fraudulent prop bets.
- Prosecutors in New York charged Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Davis on Monday in an illegal sports betting scheme, according to the Attorney Office for the Eastern District.
- The defendants conspired to bribe Beasley, then with the Milwaukee Bucks, to manipulate his game performance in order to place fraudulent wagers and enrich themselves.
- Four co-conspirators, including William Brown, Robert Gorodetsky, Ernesto Plascencia, and NBA player agent Paolo Zamorano, were identified as working alongside Beasley and Davis in the scheme.
- The six men allegedly sought to "profit via illegal betting activity" by using insider information to cheat legitimate sportsbooks, prosecutors said.
- Attorney Joseph Nocella stated the defendants turned basketball into a criminal betting operation, bribing Beasley to fix multiple games and deceiving the public.
