Former Tennessee Star Dalton Knecht Signs Contract with New York Knicks, per Report
The move gives New York a perimeter shooter and could force a corresponding waiver to open a two-way roster spot, sources said.
On Friday, October 23, 2026, the New York Knicks signed former Los Angeles Lakers forward Dalton Knecht to a two-way contract, adding a young shooter to the defending champion roster.
Ahead of the 2026-27 season, the Lakers waived the 25-year-old former 17th overall pick, who had played 78 games as a rookie but fell out of the rotation during his second NBA season.
To create roster space, New York is reportedly waiving Kevin McCullar Jr., who had limited preseason opportunities and shot 36.4% from the field across three games.
Knecht will likely spend most of the season with the G-League's Westchester Knicks to rebuild his confidence, with the two-way deal allowing splits between the G-League and NBA roster.
Given the team's injury concerns and depth issues, some analysts suggest the Lakers might regret letting Knecht go, particularly because the franchise opted to retain Bronny James, whose reliability remains unproven.
