Former Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki dies aged 72
Koome said Kariuki helped build key judicial institutions and reforms that strengthened access to justice and professional training for judges and staff.
On Tuesday, Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed the death of former Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki, aged 72, in a statement paying tribute to his distinguished judicial career.
Kariuki served as a High Court judge before becoming the first elected President of the Court of Appeal in 2013, later serving as the government's chief legal adviser under President Uhuru Kenyatta until 2022.
Founding the Judicial Training Institute in 2009, Kihara established structured judicial education and professional development while championing efficiency reforms at the Court, including decentralizing operations.
The Judiciary fraternity is mourning his passing, with Koome describing his life as devoted to law and public service: "May Almighty God grant his family strength and consolation, and may his soul rest in eternal peace."
His contributions to Kenya's legal institutions remain an enduring part of the country's history, ensuring generations of legal professionals will benefit from his institutional reforms and leadership legacy.
