School bells tolling in area

School bells will be tolling next week for three out of the four Heart of Oklahoma schools. Wayne and Washington kick off the 2026-2027 school year with both districts starting classes Wednesday August 12. Lexington is right on their heels starting class work Thursday August 13. Pictured above is the current striker on the bell in the belltower of the County Courthouse that tolls every hour after it receives a signal from the clock controller. The picture at the right of the bell is the old striker that is no longer in use.
