Floyd Mayweather 'agrees' to face world champion for WBC title in comeback fight at 49: "It's real"
Garcia said the bout would be a real fight, not an exhibition, but no date, venue or sanctioning has been confirmed.
- On Wednesday, Ryan Garcia announced an agreement to fight Floyd Mayweather at 147 pounds for the WBC welterweight title, claiming they agreed to the matchup during a phone call.
- Garcia clarified the bout would be a professional contest, not an exhibition, as the 28-year-old champion currently holds the WBC title and seeks to defend it against the retired icon.
- Uncrowned's Darshan Desai reported there have been 'no serious negotiations' about the fight, while Mayweather has not commented publicly on Garcia's claims.
- Terence Crawford ridiculed the announcement on social media, questioning why Garcia pursues a 49-year-old retired fighter instead of active contenders like Jaron Ennis or Vergil Ortiz.
- The WBC has not confirmed the matchup as a title defense, and skepticism persists as Mayweather has fought exclusively in exhibitions since 2017.
