‘It’s sugar:’ Florida Man Blows Fentanyl in Deputy’s Face Outside Publix, Video Shows
Authorities say Jesse James McAuliffe exposed a deputy to fentanyl during a search and now faces possession, tampering and paraphernalia charges.
An Ocala man, 36-year-old Jesse James McAuliffe, faces charges after allegedly blowing fentanyl into a deputy's face at a Publix parking lot late last month in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Fugitive Apprehension Deputy Qubaisy tracked McAuliffe to a Publix on Southwest 62nd Ave Road, acting on an active violation of probation warrant for the suspect.
During the search, deputies discovered multiple syringes and fentanyl in a bottle cap inside the vehicle, though McAuliffe claimed the substance was "sugar."
The Marion County Sheriff's Office confirmed McAuliffe faces charges including fentanyl possession, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia; Qubaisy remains in good condition.
Bodycam footage documented the encounter, exposing the deputy to a potent and potentially lethal substance and highlighting the dangers officers face during drug-related arrests.
