Florida dad arrested after 5-year-old eats his cannabis gummies, deputies say
Juan Harris delayed medical care after his daughter ingested cannabis gummies, leading to her two-night hospitalization, authorities said this is the child’s second drug-related incident.
- On MONDAY, Palm Coast man Juan Harris was arrested after his daughter ate gummy candy containing cannabis, Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies say.
- After symptoms began, deputies say the father delayed and the child's mother told deputies she asked Harris to take the child to the hospital, but he allegedly texted `just sleep it off`.
- When dropped off with her mother, the child was unresponsive, unable to stand and had rolling eyes, and she spent two nights unconscious in a children's hospital, deputies say.
- Authorities charged Harris with child neglect with great bodily harm, and he posted a $25,000 bond, body camera footage shows `I want my lawyer` during arrest.
- The child previously ingested an unknown opioid at 10 months, resulting in developmental disability and non-verbal status, while Dr. Candice Jones cautioned such exposures can impair cognition, speech and motor skills.
