Floods, landslides kill 15 in India, four in Nepal as rivers rise
Rivers rose above danger levels as floods and landslides killed 19 people and left 10 Nepali workers missing, officials said.
- Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across North India left 10 people dead and 17 injured in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, with 63 districts recording above-normal precipitation and widespread damage to homes and crops.
- A weather system moving towards southeast Uttar Pradesh triggered the deluge, with the state receiving 19 times its normal rainfall in 24 hours ending Saturday. Banda recorded 227.6 mm and Hardoi 214 mm.
- Severe weather damaged 117 houses and standing crops across Uttar Pradesh, disrupting power and traffic. In Gajarhiya Tola, a tree collapse killed three family members; 20 kutcha houses were damaged in Kannauj.
- Authorities suspended the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand till Sunday, while Jharkhand faced severe flooding. Six flights were cancelled at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi as the Subernarekha and Kharkai rivers flowed above danger levels.
- The India Meteorological Department predicted continuous rain in Himachal Pradesh till September 29, while Rajasthan anticipated light rainfall starting Sunday due to a fresh western disturbance. Delhi experienced a temperature drop following Saturday's storms.
