Investigators seized about Rp 3.3 billion, gold and cryptocurrency as they probe alleged collusion in BNPB emergency procurement.
On Wednesday, the Corruption Eradication Commission arrested five suspects for alleged corruption at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency , including Bima Setyawan, the younger brother of BNPB chief Suharyanto.
Investigators are examining indications of collusion between agency officials and private companies regarding the disbursement of about 4.62 trillion rupiah in ready-to-use emergency funds allocated for disaster relief.
Raids earlier this week across Greater Jakarta yielded about 1.4 billion rupiah in cash and valuables, while KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto stated the suspected irregularities may have stretched back three or four years.
BNPB acting spokesman Berton Panjaitan assured that disaster response operations will continue despite the arrests, while Indonesian MP Abdullah called for a comprehensive audit of agency finances by the State Audit Board.
Indonesia is currently battling multiple emergencies, including forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan, where the government has deployed about 70,000 personnel to contain blazes amid heightened scrutiny of relief spending.
The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has named five suspects in the corruption case of BNPB disaster funds, one of whom is the younger brother of BNPB Head Suharyanto, Bima Setyawan.
