The southern Italian island of Sicily is being ravaged by hundreds of forest fires. As a precaution, about fifty homes in the city of Trapani have been evacuated. The president of the Sicilian region says some of the fires were deliberately set. Italian broadcaster RAI is calling it a "forest fire SOS" for Italy.

Several fires have broken out in the Trapani area, from Custonaci to San Vito Lo Capo, passing through Buseto Palizzolo. The most critical situation was in Castelluzzo, a hamlet of San Vito Lo Capo (TP), where flames threatened homes.
