Fire crews from several cities responded to a brush fire in the area of 72nd Avenue and Buchanan Street, near Expressway 86 in Mecca. The fire started yesterday around 2:45 p.m. and destroyed more than 80 acres of brush as it spread rapidly through dense vegetation. Firefighters Sunday were battling a brush fire that was burning approximately 40 acres in Thermal. The fire was reported around 2:40 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Avenue 72 and Buchanan Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
