Fire, Smoke Shutters SkyTrain Service at Burnaby, B.C., Stations
TransLink said the closure is tied to an early-morning fire and that bus service will replace trains while crews inspect infrastructure.
On Wednesday, TransLink closed Gilmore, Rupert, and Brentwood stations after a fire erupted beneath the elevated Gilmore SkyTrain platform in Burnaby. Service was suspended at 5:50 a.m.
Twenty firefighters responded to the station at 5:45 a.m., according to Burnaby assistant fire chief Joe Mora. Crews discovered a plastic bench fully engulfed in flames at the base of a station pillar.
Metro Vancouver Transit Police found no reason to believe anything suspicious occurred, and no injuries were reported. TransLink is conducting a "thorough investigation of infrastructure" before service resumes.
A Bus Bridge now supports passengers at affected stations while the Expo Line and Canada Line remain fully operational. Commuters must transfer to bus service at Holdom or Renfrew stations.
The stations will reopen once the investigation is complete and the infrastructure has been cleared for operation, TransLink spokesperson Dan Mountain stated. No reopening timeline has been announced.
