Finding Faith: The tragic failure behind $40 million
The pastor says the contract could have funded the mission’s full operation for eight years as shelter and pantry demand keeps rising.
Last week, a Pastor heard news of a $40 million NBA contract extension while driving home from the Big City, a report arriving just one day after sending his mission team recent economic data about Minnesota.
Minnesota Public Radio reports that prices rose 3.7 percent according to the Consumer Price Index, causing workers to lose purchasing power while the mission sees more families seeking hot meals and clothing than ever before.
One $40 million salary could fund the mission's entire operation—emergency shelter, nutrition programs, and case management—serving more than 500 people per day for eight entire years, equivalent to nearly 890 average incomes.
After reflecting on these earthly priorities, the Pastor called such failed principles tragic, questioning why society values professional sports entertainment so highly when the choice to tune out exists for all.
Good work serving the community continues, but the Pastor expects this year's numbers to worsen as demand grows, noting our mission network in Minnesota already distributed more food last year than ever before.
