Full Lewis Hamilton radio as Ferrari investigation underway after loss of power in FP2
On Friday, Lewis Hamilton stopped his Ferrari on track during FP2 at the Mexico City Grand Prix after suffering a power-related issue that cut his session short.
Earlier that day, the 41-year-old Briton conducted aero rake experiments during FP1, opting to run the tests himself rather than use a young driver, which limited his preparation time.
Hamilton completed just 13 laps compared to Charles Leclerc's 35, finishing 11th on the FP2 timesheets after the stoppage disrupted his qualifying simulation runs.
Team Principal Fred Vasseur said the team will "take a decision tonight" on necessary repairs before FP3, noting it is "a bit too early" to determine the specific cause.
Despite the setback, Hamilton remains optimistic about his setup, saying he is "praying everything's ok" to avoid negative impacts on his weekend performance at the high-altitude circuit.
Ferrari are left with mixed feelings after Friday's practice session for the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc was fastest in both sessions, while Lewis Hamilton lost valuable track time due to an engine failure. The seven-time world champion was unable to complete a long stage, but was overall satisfied with his car, while the Monaco driver said there are still some areas for improvement.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton expressed hope that his Ferrari's powertrain has not suffered fatal damage after a technical fault ended his second practice session ahead of the Formula One Mexican Grand Prix.
