YKA Receives $1.3 Million in Federal Funding to Upgrade Electrical Infrastructure

- On Wednesday, the federal government announced Kamloops Airport will receive $1,349,057 to replace and upgrade its electrical infrastructure through the Airports Capital Assistance Program.
- Transportation Minister Steven MacKinnon stated the funding is part of a $23.5 million commitment to upgrade aging infrastructure at six local and regional airports across British Columbia.
- Beyond Kamloops, the federal package supports facilities in Bella Coola, Fort Nelson, Masset, Prince Rupert, and Smithers, with upgrades covering airfield lighting, electrical equipment, and runway rehabilitation.
- Regional Community Airports of Canada chair Lindsey noted that maintaining modern equipment is costly, calling such infrastructure investments "absolutely critical to maintaining sustainable communities across Canada."
- Minister MacKinnon also highlighted the strategic importance of regional airports for trade, particularly as Canada seeks to expand economic connections with markets beyond the United States.
