Federal Way football honors DeeJay Tuiasosopo in 56-point win
Federal Way honored junior lineman DeeJay Tuiasosopo with helmet stickers and a 56-0 win, as communities across Washington paid tribute.
On Oct. 30, the Federal Way Eagles football team honored late junior lineman DeeJay Tuiasosopo with a 56-0 victory against Sunnyside High School, the final score a tribute to the number he wore.
Tuiasosopo died after being struck by a car on Oct. 23 following the Eagles' win over White River, when an alleged drunk driver collided with an oncoming vehicle that then hit him on the sidewalk.
Federal Way head coach Marcus Yzaguirre supported grieving players in the library on Monday, where coaches prepared breakfast and the team stayed together all day. 'They just loved on each other,' Yzaguirre said.
Sunnyside High School interim head coach Anthony Smith delayed his team's senior night to honor the Eagles, demonstrating solidarity as both programs mourned Tuiasosopo's loss together.
Relying on their mantra of 'brotherhood,' the Eagles continue supporting one another through their grief as they prepare to host West Seattle on Nov. 6.
