FBI Joins Search for Retired Air Force Major General Missing for Nearly 2 Weeks
Retired Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland has been missing for nearly two weeks after leaving his Albuquerque home on foot; authorities have found no evidence of foul play.
- The FBI has joined the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office search for Major Gen. William Neil McCasland, 68, who left his Albuquerque home on Feb. 27 and has been missing nearly two weeks, with a Silver Alert still active.
- McCasland's decades-long defense and space career included roles such as chief engineer of the GPS program, commanding the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and briefly working with To The Stars and Tom DeLonge.
- Search teams have deployed dozens of volunteers, drones, horseback and helicopter units, while investigators contacted more than 600 homeowners for Ring and other home security cameras as McCasland left his cellphone behind, leaving few leads.
- BCSO is coordinating with the FBI Albuquerque Field Office and Kirtland Air Force Base, and investigators say an unspecified medical issue heightens urgency, with no evidence of foul play so far.
- Experts and family have urged caution about connecting the disappearance to classified knowledge since Susan McCasland Wilkerson said he retired nearly 13 years ago and held only common clearances.
