Fatal NT flight flew near path of ex-tropical cyclone

A 22-year-old male pilot and his 43- year-old female passenger died when their Cessna 210N crashed east of Katherine in Arnhem Land on December 24. The aircraft's right wing was found about 300 metres from the crash site, indicating it separated from the fuselage during flight. A day before the accident, Cyclone Ellie crossed the coast west of Darwin and tracked south before being downgraded to a tropical low.
