Falcons release 2 defenders as James Pearce Jr. returns from suspension
The roster moves cleared space after James Pearce Jr. returned from an eight-game suspension, while Samson Ebukam remains sidelined.
On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons released defensive end Drake Jackson and outside linebacker Jared Ivey while reinstating outside linebacker James Pearce Jr. following an eight-game suspension.
Pearce, a 2025 first-round draft pick, served the suspension tied to a domestic-violence case involving a plea agreement entered as part of diversion.
Pearce finished third in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting last season after recording 10.5 sacks, providing potential relief for the 3-5 Falcons following Sunday's 16-0 shutout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite the need for depth during Samson Ebukam's injury absence, the Falcons cut Ivey, who played 17 snaps on Sunday, shortly after Monday's transaction log update around 4 p.m. ET.
Atlanta continues its season hosting the Cincinnati Bengals next, aiming to end an eight-year playoff drought while integrating Pearce back into the defensive rotation.
