Driver Said 'F****** Hell, I've Killed Someone' After Horror Crash

Minshull Street Crown Court handed Wayne Burgess a 17-month suspended sentence and 10-year driving ban for dangerous driving after the 61-year-old admitted to crashing into a 70-year-old woman's car on the M62.
On May 2 last year, Burgess became distracted entering a Salford postcode into his sat nav during a hands-free call; he later tested positive for cocaine, which he admitted using to 'self-medicate' undiagnosed ADHD.
Trapped between Burgess's HGV and another truck on the M62, the victim's car was crushed; she remained inside for a 'significant' period before firefighters rescued her, requiring treatment for 'severe facial disfigurement.'
Defence counsel Hayley Parkes said Burgess took 'full acknowledgement of the seriousness of the offence and the severity on the victim,' while he was ordered to complete 300 hours unpaid work and 15 days rehabilitation.
Recorder Katie Jones said the victim had 'endured a terrible ordeal' and it was 'extremely lucky' she wasn't killed, while the victim described the crash as 'devastating,' noting she cannot work or care for her grandchildren since.
