26 Killed in China Fireworks Factory Blast
Xi Jinping ordered a thorough probe as nearly 500 rescuers and three robots searched the site and authorities evacuated nearby residents.
On Monday, an explosion at Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in Liuyang, Hunan, killed at least 26 people and injured 61, state media reported Tuesday.
More than 1,500 firefighters, rescuers, and police were deployed to search for survivors, utilizing 18 drones and three robots to control on-site hazards following the blast.
Authorities evacuated surrounding areas due to risks from black powder depots at the site; rescue workers used spraying and humidification to eliminate potential hazards and save the injured.
President Jinping ordered a thorough investigation into the blast, and authorities implemented "control measures" against those in charge of the company to enhance risk screening efforts.
Xinhua reported that Jinping instructed officials to enhance public safety management and ensure the safety of people's lives and property, though the specific causes remain unclear.
