There could be millions of pieces of ammunition in Syria, which threatens the local population. The non-governmental organization HALO Trust therefore called for an urgent international effort to remove the huge number of landmines and unexploded ordnance. This was reported by the ReliefWeb server, which deals with humanitarian issues. Many displaced people are returning to Syria after the fall of the regime of President Bashar Assad.
