DHS Blames ‘Weak’ Biden Policies After Piracy-Linked Somali Illegal Immigrant Nabbed at Northern Border
DHS said his fingerprints match a 2012 Navy encounter with suspected Somali pirates, and he is being held on illegal-entry charges.
- On Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested Said Jama Ahmed, a Somali national, near the U.S.-Canada border on an outstanding passport fraud warrant and piracy-related fingerprint match.
- Federal records link Ahmed to a 2012 U.S. Navy operation in the Gulf of Aden, where a boarding team encountered him and "nine other armed pirates who had taken the Indian ship hostage by force."
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement previously detained Ahmed in 2024 after his 2022 entry into the United States; an off-duty Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer spotted him walking near the border on April 14.
- Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stated, "Weak Biden Administration border policies allowed this illegal alien to enter and remain in the country despite his multiple law enforcement encounters," as authorities hold Ahmed in the District of North Dakota.
- The Department of Homeland Security affirmed, "DHS will continue to work to arrest criminal illegal aliens to protect the American homeland from all threats," as Ahmed remains subject to an outstanding arrest warrant for passport fraud violations.
