Exus Buys Rights to Develop Louisiana, Wisconsin Solar Plants
The deal nearly doubles Exus’ portfolio as the company seeks buyers for power from projects that can connect quickly.
- On Tuesday, Exus Renewables North America acquired four solar projects totaling 715 megawatts from ibV Energy Partners, announced September 29. The deal spans Wisconsin and Louisiana, nearly doubling Exus' portfolio.
- Rising electricity demand from data centers and rapid electrification drives demand for quick power interconnection, Exus CEO Jim Spencer said. These projects offer potential for fast grid connection in regions where generation lags consumption.
- The acquisition includes the 310-megawatt Maple Grove Solar 1 and 2 in Barron County, Wisconsin, plus the 125-megawatt Bayou Teche Solar and 280-megawatt Bayou Chicot Solar projects in Louisiana.
- Spencer expects to finalize offtake agreements within four to six weeks while negotiating power sales with Big Tech hyperscalers and utilities serving data-center loads.
- Solar developer ibV Energy Partners secured grid connections for the sites roughly a half-decade ago, said CEO Chris McKissack. When fully operational, the combined systems could supply electricity to approximately 390,000 average homes.
