Expanding on naval blockade, US military looks to restrict Iranian land commerce
The 20-person team will coordinate with other U.S. agencies to stop advanced weapons, dual-use goods and illegal revenue streams, CENTCOM said.
On Saturday, United States Central Command announced Task Force Iron Gate, a Tampa, Florida-based unit designed to restrict Iranian movement of advanced weapons systems across land borders and the Caspian Sea.
This initiative expands upon the existing Operation Economic Outcast, a naval blockade that has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion in crude oil while costing the Regime some 6 billion dollars a month.
Comprising an internal staff of around 20 civilian and military personnel, the task force will also monitor dual-use and illegal revenue streams beyond the movement of weapons systems.
"Strengthening CENTCOM's collaboration with US interagency partners will further constrain Iran's ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish its military," Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of Central Command, said in a statement.
Expanding the blockade to include land and air connections aims to tighten financial flows, as the Trump Administration continues a containment and isolation strategy against the Islamic Republic to encumber its ability to operate as a modern industrial state.
The United States Central Command has announced the formation of a task force called the "Iron Gate" to prevent Iran from transporting weapons across its land borders and the Caspian Sea, under the continued naval blockade.
