The European Council on Thursday appointed Croatian Central Bank Governor Boris Vujčić as Vice-President of the European Central Bank (ECB). He will serve an eight-year, non-renewable term starting on June 1. He will succeed Spaniard Luis de Guindos.
The European Council decision was taken this Friday at a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels after consulting the European Parliament and the Governing Council.
There is speculation about the succession of ECB President Christine Lagarde. There is already clarity about who inherits the outgoing Vice-President Luis de Guindos.
On January 19, eurozone finance ministers nominated Croatian National Bank Governor Boris Vujčić as Vice-President of the European Central Bank.
The Heads of State and Government of the European Union have given the green light to the appointment of the governor of the National Bank of Croatia, Boris Vujcic, as the new vice president of the issuing institute in place of the Spanish Luis de Guindos, whose term of office expires on 31 May.
