Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement named to Team USA for World Baseball Classic
Clement set an MLB postseason record with 30 hits and earned Gold Glove nominations, making him a key utility infielder for Team USA in the 2026 Classic.
On Tuesday, USA Baseball announced Ernie Clement, the Toronto Blue Jays infielder, was named to Team USA for the World Baseball Classic, which runs March 5-17 in Miami, Houston, San Juan and Tokyo.
After being designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics in 2023, Ernie Clement's 2025 season featured career bests, including 157 games played and 151 hits, with 4.3 WAR from Baseball Reference.
Clement's postseason slash of.411/.416/.562 and 30 hits set new MLB single-postseason marks, surpassing Randy Arozarena's 29 and including 10 multi-hit games plus a 13-game hitting streak.
Monroe County honored Clement with a key and declared Nov. 29 'Ernie Clement Day,' and he signed a one-year deal worth $4.6 million US last week, avoiding arbitration.
Clement joins a Team USA roster featuring Byron Buxton, Aaron Judge, and Kyle Schwarber, with preliminary play starting March 6 in Houston against Brazil.
