EPL: Carrick Takes Decision on Keeping Bruno Fernandes as Man Utd Captain
- Manager Michael Carrick reaffirmed Bruno Fernandes as United captain on October 29, stating the 32-year-old is 'fully committed' to the club following clear-the-air talks.
- The benching followed Fernandes's public criticism of tactics after a 4-1 Champions League defeat by Como, leading to the October 25 decision to exclude him from the Bournemouth match.
- United sit 16th in the Premier League amid an eight-game winless run across all competitions, having not won a league match since defeating Ipswich Town on August 30.
- Senior club officials held discussions regarding Carrick's position on October 26, yet the manager dismissed suggestions he required assurances, saying 'I understand the job, I understand the responsibilities.'
- Former United captain Gary Neville questioned the club's decision to retain Carrick, arguing that replacing a manager can sometimes serve both the club's and coach's interests ahead of Saturday's Chelsea match.
