The U.S. Department of Energy is ordering two coal-burning power plants in Indiana to stay open. President Donald Trump is trying to boost the nation’s coal mining industry. The DOE’s 90-day orders say the coal plants need to stay operating until at least March 23rd. The plants are owned by Northern Indiana Public Service Company near Wheatfield and CenterPoint Energy along the Ohio River near Newburgh.
