Election Commission of India to launch major voter enrolment drive in UP on Nov 12
Officials will use local departments, ration shops and youth groups to find eligible voters, after a 2.4 crore gap emerged between roll counts.
On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa directed District Election Officers to match Assembly electoral rolls with Panchayat and Urban Local Body lists, aiming to bridge a gap of nearly 2.4 crore voters.
Rinwa initiated this correction drive after the Special Intensive Revision revealed an "abnormally low" number of women and youth voters, prompting officials to launch a state-wide enrollment effort.
District Election Officers are engaging departments like Health and Women Welfare to identify unregistered citizens; field workers including ASHA, ANM, and Anganwadi staff will conduct door-to-door visits while fair-price shops assist.
Electoral Literacy Clubs will register youth, while officials distribute Form-6 to every identified eligible citizen; the Election Commission approved a rationalization plan on November 4, reducing polling stations by 3,786 to 1,73,730.
Authorities are prioritizing the Special Summary Revision-2027 to ensure all eligible citizens appear on rolls before the 2027 Assembly elections, with final electoral lists scheduled for publication early next year.
A special campaign will be launched to add the names of eligible citizens missing from the voter lists for assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. This campaign will focus especially on young and women voters.
