- Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions identified the beds as a top community need three or four years ago, aligning the project with the province's Road to Recovery model.
- Operated by Vancouver Island Connective and Island Health, the home provides 24-hour transitory care; clients typically stay between 30 and 90 days, serving as "the second step of a person's rehabilitation," Andrew Ferguson from Connective said.
- Nina Kossenko, co-chair of the Community Action Team, said starting recovery close to home is vital, emphasizing that the step of walking through the door to recovery is "incredibly difficult."
- Renovations are complete and officials expect the facility operational within a month, serving the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and filling a critical service gap in the Alberni Valley.
