Nigeria: Alleged N36m Fraud - EFCC Arraigns Blessing CEO in Lagos
The influencer pleaded not guilty as prosecutors said she took N36 million by falsely promising a six-bedroom duplex and then converted the money.
- On Friday, social media influencer Blessing CEO, whose real name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, was arraigned before Justice D.I. Dipeolu at Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, facing two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing N36 million.
- The latest charges reflect a pattern of controversies involving false property claims and fabricated medical documents; in 2019, Blessing CEO posted photographs of a seven-bedroom mansion claiming she built it for her 30th birthday until businessman Onye Eze identified himself as the actual owner.
- Between July 14 and 17, 2024, Blessing CEO allegedly obtained N36 million from Ifeyinwa Okoye by falsely representing she could secure a six-bedroom detached duplex at No. 1B Tunbosun Osobu Street, Lekki; make-up artist Deborah Mbara alleged the influencer doctored her medical results to solicit public funds.
- After pleading not guilty, Blessing CEO's defence counsel P.I. Nwafor disclosed she refunded N24 million of the N36 million and requested adjournment to resolve the outstanding balance; Justice Dipeolu permitted settlement discussions and ordered her remanded in EFCC custody.
- Trial commencement is set for June 5, 2026, as prosecuting counsel S.I. Suleiman stressed the Federal Government of Nigeria is the complainant and rejected defence settlement proposals, maintaining the EFCC cannot be party to private agreements.
