Hervey Looking to Win Second Grey Cup in Edmonton
Hervey says ownership, coaching and roster changes helped Edmonton climb from six straight playoff misses to first in the West.
General manager Ed Hervey has turned Edmonton into a CFL West Division contender, with the club now preparing to host the 2026 division final after missing the playoffs for six straight years.
The turnaround followed major organizational changes: owner Larry and Deb Thompson hired Chris Morris as president and Mark Kilam as head coach, providing the leadership structure Hervey needed to return in November 2024.
Hervey overhauled the player experience, noting "there were a lot of things that needed to be fixed" regarding food quality, travel consistency, and player treatment, focusing the roster on accountability and community engagement.
Credit for the turnaround is shared, Hervey said, noting "there was a lot of heavy lifting done by a lot of people who don't get mentioned," as organizational alignment drives their team-first success.
Hervey said the organization aims to reclaim its flagship status: "We want to get back to the standard of being the flagship franchise that this place once held so proudly," signaling long-term ambition.
